At the beginning of May we planted a new vineyard. This is located in the heart of our lands at the foot of Csobanc Mountain.

Millions of years old soils of volcanic origin, with an intermediate layer of sand which is enriched with sediments from the earlier marine life from the Pannonian Sea, guarantee a very special location. We let this site rest and recover for three years before we prepared it for planting.

We decided to plant a Riesling for the 1.8 hectares. The clone of these vines comes from the German Riesling region of the Palatinate. The positive experience with this clone in recent years has prompted us to expand our Riesling area with this vineyard. At Villa Tolnay, Riesling can definitely be described as one of the most important grape varieties. In addition to the varietal base and premium wines, this grape is also an important component in our two white cuvées "Hidden Treasures Riesling-Furmint" and the "Tenger Cuvée" which is based on Chardonnay.

In order to increase the cane density in this area and to intensify the natural competition for root growth between the vines, we created a double-canopy culture. This is how a vineyard was created which gives around 11,000 vines a new home.

Sufficient rain before planting as well as extensive rain in the weeks that followed allowed the new plant to thrive. The strong growth of the young plants shows the richness and potential of this vineyard in a wonderful way. It will certainly take a few more years, but we are already looking forward to being able to taste the wine from this great location.
